Hello! Welcome to our latest Project ADAM Blog. We are thrilled to invite you to take a peek into our National Conference that was held this year. Project ADAM Kansas City welcomed 120 attendees, partners, and guests from two countries (United States and Canada) and 24 different states for its 2024 National Conference at Children’s Mercy Kansas City. Topics discussed included sudden cardiac death prevention efforts, Heart Safe School strategies and initiatives and how to expand our reach into our respective communities.

One of our speakers, Dr. Sean Connolly from Nemours Children’s Health Delaware presented on disparities in sudden cardiac arrest survival and cardiac emergency response planning across the nation and strategies for overcoming these barriers. Project ADAM is committed to caring for all children and communities as every life is precious regardless of zip code.

Additionally, a panel consisting of local school nurse representatives who have successfully implemented Heart Safe School programs in their districts provided helpful feedback to Project ADAM KC.

Local sudden cardiac arrest survivors and their family members shared their story and the impact that sudden cardiac events have on the entire family. One of the speakers, a now 21-year-old former patient of Dr. Lindsey Malloy Walton, suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest at the age of 12 while playing volleyball. She received bystander CPR, and an AED was used to save her life. She later was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy and received a heart transplant in 2018. Olivia inspired us as she spoke honestly about her experiences as a survivor as well as her time at Children's Mercy.
